Why 2021 is the Best Year to Make Your Website ADA Compliant and Accessible to Everyone

The Marena Cosmos team has been actively campaigning for ADA website accessibility for several years. We witnessed how challenging it is for a disabled user to navigate a non-compliant site. Each time we engage in a website redesign, upgrade or refresh project or proposal, we present the benefits and importance of compliance. In short, there are four essential reasons why, in 2021, you must design your website with ADA accessibility as a priority:

  • Prevent Website Accessibility Litigation

According to a recent article on Law.com in 2019, there were over 2000 lawsuits filed in the nation’s federal courts due to the fact that many disabled or older users cannot access essential websites and applications.

  • Improve your Search Engine Ranking

Search engines are now factoring in ADA accessibility into search result rankings, according to this article by google and this one by Microsoft. Your site must follow ADA accessibility guidelines performed by a certified professional. Adding a quick fix code reader to your website won’t help much.

  • The White House Says So

Under the new US government administration, they have prioritized Website accessibility and as a way of expressing this you can read their website accessibility statement to see exactly how the standards must be followed.  https://www.whitehouse.gov/accessibility/

Healthcare – Digital Resources like Apps and Websites must be accessible

Shopping – People with Disabilities must have access to digital resources

Emergency Services – Any disabled individuals must have emergency services access via website, apps and other digital technology

  • Inclusion is Good Business

Firstly, making your website accessible to visitors with vision, mobility, or hearing impairments is the right thing to do.  Plus this demographic has meaningful purchasing power. 1 in 6 visitors to your site may not be able to use it. * That is a significant amount of business your site may be overlooking.
